Archtop French Windows

This project involved restoring a pair of 5-foot split archtop windows that had seen years of use. Layers of paint had built up throughout the frames, while the long meeting stiles had gradually warped, preventing the windows from closing and operating as they should.

The restoration took several days of careful fitting and repair, including removing excess paint, correcting the warped meeting stiles, addressing worn glazing and hardware, and adjusting the sash to work properly within the existing opening. The goal was not to replace what had moved with age, but to work with the original construction, correct the problems that had developed over time, and return the windows to smooth, reliable operation while preserving as much historic material as possible.
