The Lilacs: Storm Window Restoration

The Lilacs storm window restoration focused on three historic 8-lite storm windows positioned above the front porch. Years of exposure had taken their toll on the wood, glazing, and finish, but the original construction was still worth preserving.

Each storm was carefully removed, assessed, stripped and repaired before the glass was reset and the individual panes were reglazed and refinished for continued exterior use. Working with eight individual lites per window meant taking the time to preserve the muntins and original proportions while addressing deterioration without unnecessarily rebuilding the entire assembly.

Though a relatively small group of windows, the project shows what preservation is often about: repairing what has failed, retaining what remains sound, and giving original craftsmanship another generation of useful life.
